The song Little Drummer Boy is a beloved Christmas carol that tells the story of a young boy invited to see the newborn King, Jesus. Originally written in 1941 by Katherine Kennicott Davis, the song was first known as “Carol of the Drum.” Its simplicity and heartfelt narrative resonate with listeners, emphasizing the spirit of giving from what one has, no matter how humble.

In the lyrics, the boy laments having no gift to offer except his ability to play the drum. With Mary’s consent, he plays his drum for the infant Jesus, a gesture of pure devotion. The rhythmic refrain, "pa rum pum pum pum," echoes his offering, capturing a childlike innocence and sincerity.

The Little Drummer Boy reminds us that the best gifts come from the heart, making it a timeless anthem of humility, worship, and the joy of celebrating Christ's birth.
